Bullies End Royals Win Streak in Final Tilt in Regular Season
April 8, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Atlantic City, NJ â A valiant effort fell just short as Atlantic City held on to beat Reading 3-2 in regulation. Trailing by two goals most of the game, Reading tallied a power play goal with 2:49 remaining by Reagan Rome to cut the Atlantic City lead to one goal. With the goaltender pulled with a minute to play, Bully goaltender Trevor Koenig made several big saves to preserve the victory for Atlantic City. Koenig stopped 27 shots, including 12 in the third period, to record his 27th win of the season.
Despite being out shot 12-6, Reading carried play most of the second period. Hard work paid off as Preston Mizzi registered the team's league-leading 16th shorthanded goal at 15:40 of the period to cut the Atlantic City lead in half at 2-1. Mizzi collected his 19th goal of the season and 17th in a Royals uniform. Beau Geisler, recently assigned from Manchester, assisted on the goal. The Bullies would take a two-goal lead to the locker room again however. Ryan Reid picked up a rebound off a Fraser Clair shot and blasted it by Cody Rudkowsky to make the score 3-1.
The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies scored two goals less than three minutes apart toward the end of the stanza to jump on top of Reading, 2-0. Dave Reid held a puck inside the Reading zone at the right point and fired it by Cody Rudkowsky to put the Bullies up 1-0. Atlantic City converted on the power play at the 18:18 point as Kelsey Muench slid the puck under Cody Rudkowsky after taking a nice pass in the slot from Ian Walterson. Rookie signee from the OHL's Erie Otters, Geoff Platt, accounted for the second helper on the only power play chance for the Bullies in the period.
The Royals finish the regular season on the road tomorrow night in Wheeling, West Virginia. Reading meets the Wheeling Nailers at 7:30 p.m. live from Wes Banco Arena.
