Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Wisconsin Woodchucks (12-23) jumped out to a quick two-run lead in the first inning and never looked back, sweeping the two-game series over the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-24) by a score of 8-5 at Joannes Stadium Tuesday evening. The Bullfrogs dropped their fifth consecutive game to conclude the first half of the regular season.
Wisconsin's Jaren Shelby and Zach DeLoach ripped back-to-back doubles in the opening frame, followed by a sacrifice fly by Javier Valdes, to give the Woodchucks an early 2-0 advantage. Green Bay got on the board in the bottom of the first as Preston Pavlica (Junior, Grand Canyon Univ.) doubled, stole third base and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-1 game.
The Woodchucks tallied three runs in the fourth, after two outs, to stretch the lead out to 4-1. A two-run double from DeLoach and RBI triple by Reese Alexiades gave the visitors the three-run advantage.
The Bullfrogs rallied in the fifth inning. Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) grounded into a fielder's choice scoring two runs before Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) posted a RBI single to trim the margin down to 5-4.
Wisconsin added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning on a two-run single to make it a 7-4 contest. In the bottom half of that inning, Acosta stole home to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Woodchucks scratched across their final run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly, holding on for the 8-5 victory.
Acosta led the Bullfrogs going 1-for-3 with two runs scored at the top of the order. Pavlica went 1-for-3 with a run scored in his Green Bay debut, while Mihalik, Tate Soderstrom (Freshman, Univ. of Arizona) and Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) each finished 1-for-4.
Wisconsin starting pitcher Greg Dunham earned the win, improving to 1-0. Green Bay starter Justin Bureau (Senior, Ave Maria Univ.) took the loss, falling to 0-3. McKinley Moore (Sophomore, Arkansas Little Rock) and David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) each allowed no hits and no runs in a combined two innings of work with two strikeouts.
The Bullfrogs hit the road tomorrow afternoon for the opener of a home-and-home series versus the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch is slated for a 3:05 p.m. Independence Day start from Witter Field. Fans can tune in to the live radio broadcast on WOCO (107.1 FM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
