Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI. - The visiting Wisconsin Woodchucks (11-23) jumped on the board early and never looked back, securing the 7-2 victory over the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-23) at Joannes Stadium Monday evening. The Bullfrogs dropped their fourth consecutive game in the five-run defeat tonight.

Wisconsin's Jaren Shelby walked on four pitches to begin the game, stole two bases and then scored on a wild pitch to give the Woodchucks an early 1-0 advantage. The Woodchucks were held scoreless through the next three innings before tallying a three-spot in the fifth to extend their lead out to 4-0. The scoring surge began with a RBI ground out followed by a two-run blast from Javier Valdes.

In the following frame, the Bullfrogs cut the deficit in half on a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) and a RBI single from Matthew Acosta (Sophomore, USC) to make it a 4-2 game. After that, the Frogs were held to just one hit for the remainder of the contest.

Wisconsin added a pair of insurance runs on a two-run single in the sixth to stretch their lead to 6-2. The Woodchucks then plated another run in the ninth with a RBI single to get to their final 7-2 margin.

Acosta led the offense at the top of the Bullfrogs order, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI. Luke Robinson (Sophomore, Western Carolina) and Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) each went 1-for-4 with one run scored, while Alejandro Gonzalez was 1-for-2, driving in a run.
