Green Bay, WI- After one of the more impressive pre-all star showings in the history of the franchise, the Bullfrogs (32-21/10-8) take on the Kenosha Kingfish (36-18/13-5) at 5:05PM in the final game before a three-day hiatus for the all-star break.

Holding a record of 3-2 against Kenosha on the season, the Bullfrogs stand three games behind the Kingfish in the second half standings, and three and a half games back in the overall standings. Green Bay is now 5-5 over their last 10 contests.

A Game To Forget; Kenosha Wraps Up Game One With 8-1 Victory

After a long bus ride home from Minnesota Friday night, the Bullfrogs came out flat in a contest delayed by rain and dropped the first game to Kenosha by a score of 8-1.

Eric Filia (UCLA) is a really good player. And he was a double away from a cycle going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. His two-run home run lifted the Kingfish to a 2-1 lead in the fourth, an advantage they would carry the rest of the game.

Kenosha rapped out a total of six extra base hits and scored runs in five separate innings, including four runs in frames 8-9. Seven of the nine starters recorded a hit or more, as Kenosha had 11 total on the afternoon.

Alex Martinez (De Anza) made his first start since June 25th. He looked great from a location standpoint, and his only true mistake was the home run to Filia. His final line put him at 4 2/3IP/ 4H/ 3R (2ER)/2K-1BB. Martinez's outing was the first in four previous starts in which he went less than five innings.

Brendon Allen (Eastern Illinois) was phenomenal for Kenosha totaling 7IP/1ER/6H/6K-0BB in his second start and victory against the Bullfrogs.

Kingfish Still In Control Of Division

Although Kenosha entered with a team bating average of .188 in their last five games, their offense came back to life against the Bullfrogs on Saturday. And that is typically how they operate.

Similar to the Bullfrogs, the Kingfish have benefited from the entrances of late arrivals such as T.J. Nichting (UNC-Charlotte) and Jeremy Vasquez (Florida). And original heroes such as Alex Borglin (Central Michigan) and Eric Filia (UCLA) have not drawn back rapid paces that have propelled the Kingfish to overbearing wins.

Kenosha has totaled 12 two-game sweeps with winning streaks that have lasted eight (06/04-06/12) and six (06/13-06-18) games on the campaign.

Against the Bullfrogs, the Kingfish have been spotty. In two losses they have only scored one run, while in their three wins they have piled on a sum of 24 runs.

Great pitching from the likes of Brendon Allen against the Bullfrogs (2-0/1.39ERA/13.0IP/9K-1BB) has been contrasted by dismals outings like the one E.J. Trapino (LHP/Wright State) had when he was pulled after 3 1/3IP/5ER/6H in what was a 10-7 win for the Bullfrogs in June.

Trapino will start again today coming off his last start on July 8th in which he shut down the Chinooks in seven scoreless innings.

Bullfrogs In Prime Position For Playoff Bid Heading Into Break

Regardless of today's result, Green Bay has cemented the fact that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Northwoods League. The Bullfrogs are without a losing skid of more than three-games in a row. And they now carry a new starting rotation fresh off excellent starts from Sam Brunner (RHP/Dayton), Ryan Radue (RHP/UConn) and Alex Martinez (RHP/De Anza).

As Martinez is active again on the roster, the Bullfrogs lose Mikey Duarte (UC-Irvine) who will be unavailable for the rest of the summer season.

That means the Bullfrogs' infield will shift. Expect to see more of the young middle infielder Jack Strunc (Washington State) at shortstop. Now the only infielder that regularly will not see time defensively is Ryan Donvoan (Lynn).

When all of the active roster has needed to contribute, Danny Rosenbaum (Louisville) has been one guy that has stood out at the plate. He is on a three game hit streak (4-for-10) with three RBI during the stretch.

After an 0-for-12 stretch from July 12-15, Brian Celsi (California) has also re-gathered himself with a three-game hit streak of his own (5-for-11). With a .306 AVG he also sports an impressive .377 on-base percentage playing in his third year under Skip Handelsman.

In a horse race with Eau Claire Field Manager, Dale Varsho (367-375), Skip Handelsman is currently the all-time winningest manager in the history of the Northwoods League with a record of 368-262.

Of the managers in the top 10 in wins in the league's 22 years of baseball, Handelsman's .584 winning percentage is second only to Adam McKay (La Crosse- .597).

Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
