Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Bulldogs Foundation announced this evening the Foundation has donated $13,900 to Juravinski Cancer Centre, raised through initiatives associated with the Bulldogs' 'Pink in the Rink' Night on Saturday, February 15th, sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart. The announcement was made during an on-ice cheque presentation before this evening's game versus the Rochester Americans at FirstOntario Centre.

"Because cancer affects almost everyone in some way, the Juravinski Cancer Centre is so critically important to our community," said Stephen Ostaszewicz, President of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and member of the Bulldogs Foundation Board of Directors. "Through the sale of our 'Pink in the Rink' jerseys and associated fundraisers, we're proud to contribute nearly $14,000 to such a significant cause."

On Saturday, February 15th, the Bulldogs wore special 'Pink in the Rink'-themed jerseys as the club took on the Texas Stars. Those game-worn jerseys were then auctioned off, with mascot Bruiser's jersey garnering the highest bid at $1,000, followed by the jerseys of goaltender Dustin Tokarski ($650) and forward Sven Andrighetto ($625). Proceeds from that game's 50/50 draw, a subsequent 'Pink in the Rink' game-used stick raffle and $2 from every 'Pink in the Rink' ticket purchased online using the promo code PINK also contributed to the overall donation.

"Thanks to the generosity and support of events such as the Hamilton Bulldogs' Pink in the Rink, the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation is able to support an outstanding project such as the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre," said Roger Ali, Vice-President, Development of the Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre Foundation. "Partnerships such as the Hamilton Bulldogs and Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation are so important and we are grateful to them for their continuous support. On behalf of our patients and staff, thank you for your continuous support."

The Bulldogs Foundation was established in 2007. The mission of the Foundation is to enrich the lives of children and youth in the Greater Hamilton Area through cash donations, gifts in kind and the assignment of tickets. By doing so, the Foundation aims to promote the creativity of interactive programs involving education, physical fitness and personal well-being. The main purpose of the Foundation is to strengthen and broaden the base of the Hamilton Bulldogs community support by providing funds to non-profit community groups and by supporting educational and community programs.
