
Monarchs Shut out Pirates in VIP Cup Finale

Manchester, NH - The Manchester Monarchs shut out the Pirates in their second straight meeting, defeating Portland 4-0 on Saturday night.
Manchester scored on a fluke goal in the first period. After two Pirates penalties left Portland at a 5 on 3 disadvantage, Linden Vey put a shot on the Pirates net that bounced over Justin Hache's shoulder and past Louis Domingue to give the Monarchs the opening goal.
Manchester added two more goals in the second period. Vey tallied his second of the night with 10:49 left in the second and Jordan Weal added a goal with 3:19 left in the second. Brayden McNabb added a goal for Manchester in the 3rd period, beating Domingue, who was run over on the play. Domingue made 35 saves on the night in the defeat, while Jean-Francois Berube made 17 save in the shutout for Manchester.
Manchester finishes the 2013-14 VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires and Service, with the VIP Cup championship and a 9-3 advantage in games this season. The VIP Player of the Series will be announced after the season and can be voted on at www.vip-cup.com.
The Pirates return to Maine tomorrow as they begin their final stretch of games this season against the Norfolk Admirals. Game time is set for 4:00 pm and can be heard on WLOB 1310 AM as well as WEZR FM 105.5/AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 3:40 with Jeff Mannix.
