Bulldogs Dropped By Monsters 5-3

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated for the second straight time 5-3 on Wednesday night at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs scored two goals late in the game but the Monsters added two of their own late in the third period to seal the victory.

Lake Erie opened the game's scoring at 16:58 of the first frame. Mike Bartlett scooped the puck out of a scrum in front of the net before wristing a shot that sailed over the right shoulder of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford.

The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 17:49 of the opening stanza while on the power play. Andre Benoit received the puck from Yannick Weber before dishing a pass to Ben Maxwell. Maxwell skated past two Monsters defenders before firing a backhand shot that beat Lake Erie starting goaltender Tyler Weiman on the blocker side.

Lake Erie took a 2-1 lead at 3:32 of the middle frame. Matthew Ford received the puck from Brian Willsie, while positioned at the right side of the net. Ford fired a shot that squeaked past the glove of Sanford. Willsie gave the Monsters a 3-1 lead at 10:54. Tom Preissing fed a pass to Willsie, who was located at the left faceoff circle. Willsie fired a shot through traffic that bounced off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Benoit scored at 17:44 of the final frame to cut the lead to 3-2. With Brock Trotter in the penalty box, Andre Benoit fired a Ryan Russell rebound past a sprawled Weiman and into the back of the net for a shorthanded marker. At 18:39, T.J. Hensick restored Lake Erie's two-goal lead when he received the puck from Willsie while positioned at the left side of the net. Hensick rifled a shot that squeezed under the arm of Sanford. Ryan White scored at 19:08 when one-timed a Brock Trotter pass past Weiman and into the net but Ford added his second goal, an empty net marker, at 19:43 to seal the win.

The Bulldogs will host the Rochester Ameicans on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:30 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
