Adirondack Phantoms News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY - Krys Kolanos led the way with the game-tying goal, an assist and a shootout goal and John Grahame finished with 23 saves for his first win of the year as the Adirondack Phantoms beat and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center, sweeping their four-game season series.

After a scoreless first period where Adirondack out-shot Bridgeport 11-5, the Phantoms grabbed the lead with a five-on-three power play goal. Rookie defenseman Joonas Lehtivuori blasted in a shot from the right point, scoring his second goal of the year at 13:25, assisted by Kris Kolanos and Jared Ross. Ross' assist gave him a five-game point streak, equaling Stefan Legein's season-long streak. Adirondack's lead lasted less than two minutes when Jesse Joensuu's pass from the right wing corner redirected off the stick of defenseman Logan Stephenson and into the net for a power play goal at 15:13.

The Sound Tigers took the lead 2-1 with another power play goal at 3:54 of the third period as Greg Mauldin squeaked the puck over the goal line on a rebound off the end boards. Adirondack pressed to level the score and finally did so when Kolanos knocked the puck in during a goal mouth scramble at 17:47, assisted by David Laliberte and Joey Mormina, sending the game into overtime.

Bridgeport out-shot the Phantoms 4-0 in the extra session and goaltender John Grahame made his best save of the night when he stretched to his left to make a pad stop on defenseman Mark Katic's breakaway, keeping the game tied.

In the shootout, Andreas Nodl and Kolanos scored in the first five rounds, but were equaled by Matt Martin and Robin Figren. Then in the seventh round Jonathon Kalinski put the Phantoms ahead with a shot through the legs of goaltender Nathan Lawson and Justin DiBenedetto's shot hit the post and the Phantoms mobbed Grahame in celebration.

John Grahame recorded his first win of the season, stopping 23-of-25 shots in 65 minutes of action and then 5-of-7 in the shootout as Adirondack improved to 18-18-2-0 on the year. Nathan Lawson finished with 34 saves through regulation and overtime and blocked 4-of-7 in the shootout as Bridgeport dropped to 21-17-1-3. The Phantoms out-shot the Sound Tigers 37-25 and went 1-for-6 on the power play; Bridgeport was 2-for-4 with the man-advantage.

Next up for the Phantoms is a two-game weekend series down in Virginia as they battle the Norfolk Admirals on Friday and Saturday nights, January 15th & 16th, at the Norfolk Scope. Adirondack's next home game is Round Eight of the Time Warner Cable Cup series with the Albany River Rats on Saturday, January 23rd at 7:00 pm at the Civic Center.
