Matthias Gets The Call; Heads Back To Panthers

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that center Shawn Matthias has been recalled on emergency conditions by the Florida Panthers.

The Mississauga, Ontario, native returns to Florida where he has collected five points (3+2) in 21 games. With Rochester, Matthias has notched three goals and five assists for eight points in 20 games this season. In his Amerks career, he has 13 goals and 15 assists in 81 games.

The 21 year old was originally the Detroit Red Wings' second-round selection (47th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Florida in a trade from Detroit to Florida, along with a second-round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for RW Todd Bertuzzi on February 27, 2007.

Rochester kicks off its two-game road set on Friday, January 15th as it heads north of the border for a 7:30 p.m. tilt with the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. Fans can tune in for the live broadcast on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
