Bulldogs double Barons 4-2

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped the Cleveland Barons 4-2 Friday evening at Copps Coliseum. With the win, the Hamilton Bulldogs record now stands at 17-9-1-1 on the season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs got off to a quick start, with a power play goal from Marcel Hossa, his second of the season. Assists went to Tomas Plekanec and Phillipe Plante. Shortly after, Jimmie Olvestad lifted a backhand shot past Baron netminder Seamus Kotyk to give the Dogs a 2-0 lead. Adding helpers on Olvestad's fourth goal was Alexander Svitov and Duncan Milroy.

In the second period the Barons fought back and evened things up at two a-piece. Lynn Loyns got the Barons on the board netting his third of the season with help from Miroslav Zalesak and Doug Murray. The Barons evened the score with Patrick Rissmiller's eighth goal of the season. Garrett Stafford and Tomas Plihal added assists on the power play marker.

Jozef Balej's eleventh goal allowed the Bulldogs to regain the lead. Balej's power play goal saw help from Karl Dykhuis and Francois Beauchemin.

Alexander Svitov added an empty net goal for Hamilton.

Bulldogs' backstopper Eric Fichaud turned aside 30 Barons shots in picking up his 11th win of the season. Barons' netminder Seamus Kotyk stopped 34 Bulldogs shots in the loss. Fichaud's record now stands at 11-7-0, while Kotyk's record falls to 2-3-3.

On special teams, the Bulldogs were 2 for 8 on the power play, while preventing goals on 4 of 5 Baron power plays.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take place Sunday, December 14th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Manitoba Moose at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 4:00pm. Sunday's game is Hamilton Spectator/Y108 Stuffed Animal Day and fans are encouraged to bring a plush toy or teddy bear to throw on the ice as a donation to those less fortunate.
