Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers will honor head coach Bob Ferguson, who collected his 500th USHL victory in a 2-1 win over St. Louis Saturday night, in a pre-game ceremony before Saturday night's match-up against the Sioux City Musketeers.
Ferguson is the league's all-time wins leader, and is now the charter member of the USHL's 500-win club. He has accumulated a record of 500-292-36 in seventeen seasons behind the bench in the USHL, and has 125 more wins than any other coach in league history.
Ferguson's USHL coaching career began in Sioux City in 1981-82, and he led the Musketeers to the Anderson and Clark Cups in his first year of coaching. He spent nine seasons in Sioux City before coming to Des Moines to lead the Buccaneers. In his first five seasons with the Bucs, from 1990-91 through 1994-95, Ferguson's teams won two Clark Cups, two Anderson Cups, and two Gold Cups.
After a six-year hiatus, in which Ferguson notched more than 200 additional wins in the IHL and ECHL, he returned to coach the Bucs in 2001-02. He has collected seventy-four wins in the two and a half seasons since returning to Des Moines.
For tickets to the game on Saturday, January 24th against Sioux City, which will feature the pre-game ceremony honoring coach Ferguson, can be purchased by calling 278-9757 or by stopping by the Metro Ice Sports Arena Box office.
