January 19, 2004 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Green Bay Gamblers News Release
(Green Bay, WI) â The NHL Central Scouting "Mid-Term rankings" came out this past week and 11 current, former, and future Gamblers were listed on the scouting services list.
Central Scouting, which is a scouting service used by the NHL, evaluates draft eligible players from North America and Europe.
In the 10-year history of the Gamblers the team has never had a player drafted in the 1st round of the NHL Entry draft. That may all change this season, as Wes O'Neill, who played in Green Bay during the 2002-03 season, is projected to go in the 1st round as he is ranked 19th overall among North American's. O"Neill, who is the focus of an article in this week's Hockey News (1/20/04), is playing his collegiate hockey at Notre Dame University where he has tallied two goals and six assists in 22 games during his freshman campaign with the Fighting Irish.
O'Neill's countryman Victor Oreskovich, who like O'Neill was named the Ontario Hockey Association's Top Pro Prospect (2003), is ranked 76th by the scouting bureau. Oreskovich, who will also be going to Notre Dame next season, has appeared in all 35 games for Green Bay in 2003-04, notching five goals and 15 assists.
Other current Gamblers listed include forwards Sean Garrity (98th), Nate Dey (121st), Jeff Hazelwood (159th), Matt Jones (214th), Thomas Sinisalo (219th), defenseman Kyle Klubertanz (149th), and Luke Beaverson (191st).
The future also looks bright for the Gamblers as two players on their Affiliate List are ranked by Central Scouting. Goaltender Corey Schneider, who is playing prep school hockey out east at Andover Academy, is ranked 7th among North American goaltenders and forward Blake Wheeler, who is playing at Breck in the Minnesota State High School Hockey League, is ranked 46th, making him the highest rated high school player in North America.
