Green Bay went 1-1-1 this past week against Sioux City and division leaders Cedar Rapids and Tri City. The Gamblers finished their six-game road trip with a 3-2-1 record.

On Tuesday night, the Gamblers would move their season high win streak to three games with a 5-3 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the Stable in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gamblers forward Eric Ehn would break a 3-3 tie with a little under three-minutes remaining in regulation. Green Bay, who never trailed in the game, would also get goals from Jimmy Kilpatrick, Sean Garrity, Billy Smith, and an empty-netter from Ryan Carter. Goaltender Troy Davenport turned aside 34 shots for his 11th win on the season

On Friday night at the brand new Tyson Center in Sioux City, Iowa the Green Bay would have their three-game win streak snapped as Sioux City scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 win over Green Bay. The Gamblers scored just 44 seconds into the game as Jimmy Kilpatrick notched a power play goal. The Musketeers would tie the game at 1-1 midway through the 1st period and then added three goals in the 2nd period to take a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Green Bay made it a 4-2 hockey game late in the 3rd period, as Carter tallied his 7th goal in his last four games to round out the scoring.

Davenport, who was undefeated in his last three outings, suffered his 14th setback of the season with a 33-save performance.

Green Bay rounded out their six-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime loss to the 1st place Tri City Storm on Saturday night at the Tri-City Arena in Kearney, Nebraska.

Green Bay, who heading into the game was 0-7-0 lifetime in Kearney, would fall behind 1-0 just 20 seconds into the contest. Davenport would be pulled after the early goal. The Storm would add another 1st period goal to take a 2-0 lead into the dressing room. The Gamblers would get 2nd period tallies from Ehn and Dey to tie the game at 2-2. After a scoreless 3rd period the game would head to overtime. Green Bay would start the extra-session short-handed as defenseman Kyle Klubertanz was assessed a delay of game penalty at the 20:00 minute mark. Green Bay would kill off the penalty, but less than a minute later Storm forward Bill Thomas would score the overtime winner with a wrist shot from the slot area.

Miller Lite Players of the Week: .

The Miller Lite Offensive Player of the Week is forward Sean Garrity. Garrity, 18, notched one goal and three assists as the Gamblers finished the week with a 1-1-1 record. Garrity, who is headed to St. Cloud State tallied a goal in the 5-3 win over Cedar Rapids, and added assists in all three games.

The Miller Lite Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Brad Smith. Smith, 20, kicked aside 27 shots in a relief effort in Saturday's night 3-2 overtime loss to Tri City. Smith, who was acquired via a trade with Central Texas in late-November, has appeared in eight games posting a 2-5-1 record to accompany 3.13 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.

CENTRAL SCOUTING

The NHL Central Scouting "Mid-Term rankings" came out this past week and eight current Gamblers were listed on the scouting services list.

Leading the pack is Victor Oreskovich, who is ranked 76th by the scouting bureau. Other current Gamblers listed among the top North American's include forwards Sean Garrity (98th), Nate Dey (121st), Jeff Hazelwood (159th), Matt Jones (214th), Thomas Sinisalo (219th), defenseman Kyle Klubertanz (149th), and Luke Beaverson (191st).

Also listed on Central Scouting's "Mid-Term rankings" is former Gamblers defenseman Wes O'Neill (2002-03), who is ranked 19th overall among North American's. Green Bay also has two of their Affiliate List players ranked. Corey Schneider, is ranked 7th among North American goaltenders and forward Blake Wheeler, is ranked 46th, making him the highest rated high school player in North America.

ALL-STARS NAMED

Green Bay Gamblers forwards Sean Garrity, Nate Dey, and Victor Oreskovich, and defenseman Kyle Klubertanz were all named to the Team World roster for the upcoming 2004 USHL Prospects/All Star Roster. The annual event will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Ice Box in Lincoln, Nebraska

WELCOME BACK CARTER

In his last five games Gamblers team captain Ryan Carter has tallied seven goals and two assists. The Minnesota State – Mankato recruit, who last Monday was named the USHL Offensive Player of the Week, has tallied 11 goals and seven assists in 35 games with the Gamblers in 2003-04.

STAT OF THE WEEK

In the last five games the North St. Paul duo of Sean Garrity and Nate Dey have combined for nine points. Garrity, who missed the first two months of the season with mono, has five points (1g &4a) in his last five outings, and Dey, who is the reigning Mr. Hockey in the state of Minnesota has four points (2g &2a)

MARK OSEICKI SHOW IS MOVING

The Green Bay Gamblers are proud to announce that the Mark Osiecki Show Presented by Miller Lite has moved to the Bay City Smokehouse, which is located inside the Best Western Midway Hotel. The show will make its debut at the Bay City Smokehouse on Tuesday, January 27, 2004. On this special evening, host Jeff Mitchell will be talking hockey with Gamblers Head Coach Mark Osiecki, the Miller Lite Player of Week, and the entire Gamblers team will also be on hand to answer questions and sign autographs. The show starts at 5:30 PM. The Mark Osiecki Show can also be heard live on AM 1570 The Score.

MATT FORD – Sioux Falls Stampede

Ford (Westhill, CA) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after registering 11 points (6g & 5a) in three games. Ford, notched back-to-back hat tricks, which included the game winner over River City on Wednesday night. With his recent offensive surge, Ford increased his season point total to 36, which puts him in the top 10 in the league in scoring.

BRETT MOTHERWELL – River City Lancers

Motherwell (St. Charles, IL) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording two goals, three assists, a game- winning goal, and was a +5 in the Lancers three games.

FERGUSON REACHES 500

Des Moines head coach and general manager Bob Ferguson notched his 500th USHL coaching victory on Saturday night as the Buccaneers defeated the St. Louis Heartland Eagles, 2-1.

Already the league's winningest coach, Ferguson became the charter member of the USHL's 500-victory club with the win. In his 17 USHL seasons behind the bench, Ferguson has posted a career record of 500-292-36. Including his professional coaching experience in the IHL and the ECHL, Ferguson has totalled more than 700 career victories.

Ferguson began his USHL coaching career in 1981-82 with the Sioux City Musketeers. That season, his first as a head coach at any level, Ferguson claimed the Anderson and Clark Cup championships. He remained in Sioux City until the 1990-91 season when he assumed head coaching duties with the Des Moines Buccaneers. He culminated a five-year stint in Des Moines by claiming junior hockey's Triple Crown championship (the Anderson, Clark and Gold Cups) in 1994-95.

THIRTY-FIVE USHL PLAYERS CRACK CENTRAL SCOUTING'S MID-TERM RANKINGS

The National Hockey League released its mid-season rankings from Central Scouting on Wednesday, featuring thirty-five players with roots in the USHL.

University of Notre Dame freshman Wes O'Neill (Green Bay) led the contingent of current and former USHL standouts, a group that outnumbered any other single American development program.

Wisconsin senior forward and former Green Bay Gambler John Eichelberger (1999-00) scored both Badger goals in the team's 2-2 tie with Notre Dame on Saturday night and added an assist the following evening in the team's 3-1 loss to the Fighting Irish...Dallas Steward (1997-00) tallied Alaska- Anchorage's lone goal in the SeaWolves 4-1 loss to St. Cloud on Friday and the following evening notched his second goal on the weekend to lead his team to a 6-3 win over the Huskies...Nate Guenin (2000-02) notched an assist in back-to-back games to help lead Ohio State to a two-game weekend sweep over Lake Superior State at the Value City Center in Columbus, Ohio...Christian Olson (1998-00), who leads Findlay University in scoring recorded a pair of assists on Friday night in the Oilers 4-2 win over Niagara...Miami of Ohio sophomore forward Chris Michael (2000-02) tallied a goal in the RedHawks 4-2 win over Ferris State on Saturday night...Matt Jones (1999-01) assisted on the game winning goal on Saturday night as the top ranked North Dakota Fighting Sioux swept Michigan Tech...Yale goaltender Josh Gartner (2001-02) turned aside 39 shots to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-4 win over Connecticut on Saturday night.

NHL WATCH

Ty Conklin who led the Gamblers to back-to-back National Championships (1996, 1997) has appeared in 24 games for the Edmonton Oilers posting an 8-9-4 record to accompany a 2.48 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.

In San Jose, Tom Priessing, who played two seasons in Green Bay (1997-99) has appeared in 36 games with the Sharks, registering a goal and five assists for six points. Pressing, who was an All-American at Colorado College last season, signed a Free Agent contract with the Sharks this past summer

AHL WATCH

Stephen Baby (1997-99), who was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 7th round of the 1999 NHL Entry draft, is red hot with four points 1g & 3a) in his last three games with the Chicago Wolves. On the 2003-04 campaign, Baby, who is in his first professional season, has 11 points (4g & 7a) in 32 games with the Wolves...Alex Brooks, who was a member of the Gamblers 1996 National Championship team, has posted a statistical line of one goal, three assists and 56 penalty minutes in 37 games with the New Jersey Devils top farm team in Albany. Jeff Finger (1997-00), who is the Gamblers all time points leader among defenseman, has tallied one goal and five assists in 31 games with the Colorado Avalanche's top farm team in Hershey...Chris Lynch (1997-98), appeared in two games this past week with the New York Islanders top farm team in Bridgeport.

ECHL WATCH

Former Gamblers Jason Notermann (1997-99) and Chris Lynch (1997-98) have both been named to East Coast Hockey League's Eastern Conference All-Star Team. The East Coast Hockey League All-Star game will be played in Peoria, Illinois on Wednesday, January 21, 2004. Notermann, who is playing in his first professional season, has tallied 14 goals and 15 assists in 38 games with the Johnstown Chiefs. Lynch, who was recently called-up to the New York Islanders top farm team in Bridgeport, has a scoring line of 20 goals and 19 assists in 39 games with the Greenville Growwl.
