The Waterloo Bucks (14-40, 4-15) dominated the Thunder Bay Border Cats (19-35, 6-12) in a 17-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Carmen Sclafani (3-4, BB, 2 2B, 3B, 2 R, 5 RBI), Brendan Hueth (3-5, R, 2 RBI, BB), and Kevin Welsh (3-4, R, 2B, BB, SF, 3 RBI) each compiled 3-hit days for Waterloo. Angelo Altavilla (2-3, R, 2B, RBI, BB) provided the Bucks with their fourth multi-hit performance. Trey Leonard (1-2, BB, HBP, SB, 3 R), Tate Samuelson (1-4, R, BB, SF, 3 RBI), and Kyle Smith (3 R, 2 BB) all added big days at the dish for the Bucks.
Sam Thoreson (5.0 ip, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) retired 13 of his last 14 to earn the win. Mike Townsend and Joshua Culliver fired 4.0 combined shut out frames to finish off the Border Cats.
Waterloo returns from the All-Star Break at 6:35 p.m. Thursday in Duluth for a 4-game road series.
