Loggers Silence Huskies to Earn Series Split

July 22, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release

After a comeback win the night before, Duluth was unable to carry the momentum of their previous win into Sunday's matchup against La Crosse as the Loggers took down the Huskies 4-1 in the final meeting between the two teams this season.

Duluth once again feel behind La Crosse early as Shane McGuire (San Diego) singled in Braiden Ward (Washington) to give the Loggers the early 1-0 advantage in the first inning.

The Lumberman would strike again in the fourth as Mike Rothenberg (Duke) scores on a wild pitch to extend the La Crosse lead to 2-0.

The Huskies would get back in the game in the sixth inning when John Lagattuta (California) was able to bring in Kyle Jacobsen (South Carolina) on a fielder's choice to pull them within a run at 2-1.

But that was as close as Duluth could get as La Crosse grabbed two insurance runs late to help them secure a 4-1 win over the Huskies.

However, the Huskies have won the overall season series against La Crosse 5-3, and they will head into the all-star break hoisting the best overall record in the north division at 36-18.

Duluth will return home to face Waterloo after the all-star break on Thursday for the start of a 4-game series against the Bucks.
