
Bullfrogs Split Two-Game Series with Woodchucks

Green Bay, WI. - In a Sunday afternoon doubleheader, the host Green Bay Bullfrogs (20-33, 8-9) dropped the first game 4-3, but secured a 4-0 victory in game two at Joannes Stadium. Today's first game was a continuation of last night's suspended contest due to weather. The Bullfrogs snap a five-game losing streak against the Woodchucks and have won five of their last six.
Game One
The first game picked-up in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Bullfrogs trailing 3-0. Green Bay got on the board in the frame with a RBI walk by Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) to cut the deficit down to 3-1.
Green Bay tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning on a two-run blast by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.). Wisconsin took the lead in the eighth as Javier Valdes scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-3 contest.
Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) led the Bullfrogs offense, finishing 2-for-3. Maris and Alejandro Gonzalez (Freshman, Hillsborough CC) each went 1-for-3, while Maris drove in one run.
Wisconsin relief pitcher Trey Horton earned the win, improving to 1-0. Green Bay reliever McKinley Moore (Sophomore, Arkansas - Little Rock) took the loss, falling to 0-3. Woodchucks reliever Lennon Gwizdala (Junior, Northwood Univ.) secured his 10th save of the season.
Game Two
Green Bay struck first with a three-spot in the second inning to grab the early 3-0 advantage. The scoring surge began with a RBI double by Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) followed by Antone scoring on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo (Freshman, Navarro College) capped the inning with a RBI safety squeeze bunt to stretch the lead to 3-0.
The Bullfrogs scored their final run in the fourth inning as Cardoza-Oquendo scored on an error to extend the advantage to 4-0. The Woodchucks left nine runners on base in the contest.
Antone was 2-for-3 at the plate for the second straight game to top the Green Bay offensive charts. Morrison, Maris and Keaton Smith (Junior, Univ. of Nevada) each contributed a 1-for-3 effort.
Bullfrogs starting pitcher Cody Norman (Sophomore, Univ. of La Verne) earned the win, improving to 2-1. Norman tossed 5 1/3 shut-out innings with five hits allowed and three strikeouts. Frogs reliever David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) was solid in relief, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts through 1 2/3 innings of work.

The Green Bay Bullfrogs have three days off this week for the 2018 Northwoods League All-Star break. The Frogs return to action this Thursday, venturing to Kalamazoo to face the Growlers for a two-game road series at Homer Stryker Field to commence their final four-game Michigan road trip. First pitch on Thursday is slated for a 6:05 p.m. CT start.
