Bucks Earn Weekend Split With RiverKings

LAREDO, TX --- Two Laredo goals in the space of 50 seconds of the first period set the tone for the evening, as the Laredo Bucks held off the Mississippi RiverKings 4-2 in Central Hockey League play Saturday, January 8th in Laredo, Texas.

Laredo took a 2-0 lead in the first period with a pair of goals, as Jeff Bes opened the scoring at 14:35, followed 50 seconds later at 15:25 with a goal from Ryan Lehr.

Serge Dube scored a power play goal in the second period at 10:45 to give the Bucks a 3-0 lead at the second intermission.

Mississippi made a run at the Bucks in the third period when Brennan Sarazin scored his second of the season at 4:08 to get within 3-1. Then with goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy pulled for an extra attacker, Louis Dumont drilled a slap shot into the net for his 11th of the year with 1:07 remaining.

Laredo finished the scoring with an empty net goal from Neil Trimm with 40 seconds left for the final score.

Laredo outshot the RiverKings 29-22 for the game, with Mississippi goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy (8-7-0) stopping 25 shots. Pier-Olivier Pelletier (5-8-4) made 20 saves in posting the victory for Laredo.

With the loss, Mississippi enters the All-Star break with a 16-17-1 record, while Laredo won for just the 12th time this year (12-15-5).
