Quad City Mallards News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Eric Giosa had a hat trick and an assist and Joel Gasper provided two goals and also added an assist as the Quad City Mallards rallied past the host Evansville IceMen 7-4 Saturday night.
The Mallards wiped out a 4-2 third period deficit by scoring five unanswered goals. Quad City was on the power play when Kevin Jarman triggered the Mallard onslaught by steering the puck in from the slot at 5:08 of the third. Gasper swooped in front to tie the game at four at the 8:21 mark. Giosa rifled in the tie breaker from the slot with 1:39 left in regulation. The Mallards were down man when Giosa- at 18:59- and Gasper- at 19:26- scored late empty net goals to finish off Evansville.
It was the IceMen who had grabbed the first goal of the night when Bo Cheesman finished off a 3-on-1 rush from the slot at 7:24 of the second period.
The Mallards rebounded to take their first lead by scoring twice in 38 seconds. Jason Kostadine jammed the tying goal home from the side of the net at 14:32 of the second. At 15:10 Giosa wristed the puck in under the crossbar for the high slot to give Quad City a 2-1 lead.
The IceMen responded with two quick goals of their own late in the second. Damian Surma banked the equalizer in off a Mallard skate from the side of the net at 17:08. Lee Zalasky buried a rebound to put Evansville back on top 62 seconds later and followed up by tipping in the fourth Evansville goal 35 seconds into the third period, but the Mallard attack would make all the noise the rest of the way.
