Willmar Stingers News Release

WILLMAR, Minn. - The Stingers ran into the Waterloo buzz saw and despite several big swings, fell short in a 6-2 loss. Colin Poche threw 5.1 solid innings, but picked up the loss as the Bucks demonstrated why they have the Northwoods League's best record.

In the early goings, the game offered no shortage of big hits from both sides. The fireworks began in the first inning when Chesny Young of Waterloo launched a two-out solo home run to spot the Bucks an early 1-0 lead. Waterloo then claimed a 2-0 lead following a home run on Poche's first pitch to John Ziznewski. Despite the early deficit, the offense eventually came to aid of Poche (Arkansas).

Marc Flores - the CDI player of the game -- launched his ninth home run of the season off TJ Renda to cut the lead in half. The Flores round-tripper placed him atop the NWL in the home run category. Flores (Hawaii) was the most effective Stinger of the night and reached base three times, continuing his torrid pace.

The Stinger's defense shined in the top of the 5th inning as Brian Olson gunned down a pair of would-be base stealers to keep the Stingers in the game. Olson (Seattle), despite being embattled with the injury bug this summer, made his presence known during his time behind the plate, limiting the effectiveness of the Bucks' NWL-best running game.

Nick Halamandaris (Cal-Berkley) led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a bang, smacking his third home run of the summer, tying the game 2-2.

The Stingers now turn to Sheldon Lee (3-1, 2.45 ERA) to right the ship in attempt to split the series with Waterloo on "Beer, Brats and Baseball Night" presented by Westside Liquor and Cullen's Home Center.

The 2013 season is presented by Charter. For more on your Willmar Stingers please visit the West Central Tribune at www.wctrib.com.
