Cats Win In St. Cloud

Dylan Becker's one-out single in the top of the 9th inning broke a 3-3 tie as the Border Cats beat the St. Cloud Rox 4-3 Wednesday night at Joe Faber Field. The victory ended a four game losing streak for the Cats and improved their second half record to 2-5. Jacob Rogers (Eastern New Mexico University) started the Thunder Bay rally with a lead off walk in the 9th. Brad Burcroff (Northeastern University) came on as a pinch runner and after a sacrifice bunt by Joey Hawkins (Missouri State University) and a single by Ty Stetson (Murray State University), Burcroff would score on Becker's go-ahead hit. Becker (Missouri State University) had three hits in the victory with a run scored and the game winning RBI. The Cats took a 3-2 lead with a three-run 8th inning on a run scoring single by Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University), an RBI groundout by Kyle Hann (Mississippi State University) and an RBI single by Philip Lyons (Nicholls State University). The Rox tied the game 3-3 with a single run in the bottom of the 8th.

Caleb Smith (Rice University) gave the Cats a second quality start in a row as he pitched six innings and allowed five hits and two runs. The righthander walked two and struck out four. Newcomer Mike Hanchar (Iowa Western CC) picked up the win in his debut as he allowed one run over two innings with one strikeout. Daniel Stoney (Madonna University) pitched a 1-2-3 9th innning for his third save.

The Cats and Rox conclude their four-game series tonight at 8:05pm ET. Righthander Jordan Church (Sam Houston State University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay.
