Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
After a 2-1 loss on Wednesday night at Kapco Park, the Chinooks got back on track with a big 7-0 victory over the Eau Claire Express. Jake Johansmeier (Eastern Illinois) who made his first start as a Chinook took control of the game going 7 innings giving up no runs on three hits. "It was nice to be back on the mound again, being in a good league like this and have the kind of guys we have. I was a little nervous, but I settled down after the first out I realized its baseball." Lakeshore tallied two runs in both the 3rd and 5th inning and added three runs in the 7th inning to secure the victory.
A walk and an error put runners on first and second base for the Chinooks in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Harrison Bader (Florida) hit a laser past the Express third baseman for an RBI single and the first run of the game. Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) then hit what seemed to be a routine ground ball to third but was bobbled resulting in another Lakeshore run and an early 2-0 lead.
Lakeshore struck again in the bottom of the 5th inning. Chris Manning (Valparaiso) started the inning off with a single followed by Sawyer Polen (Kent State) who reached on a walk. After runners advanced to second and third base on a passed ball, Harrison Bader knocked in a pair with a 2 RBI double to left field pushing the lead to 4-0.
The Chinooks began to run away with the game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Polen and Bader knocked back-to-back one out singles putting runners on the corners. The Express pitcher did not help his cause throwing a wild pitch giving the Chinooks an easy 5th run. Pinch hitter Mike Papi (Virginia) then ripped an RBI triple down the right field line to make the lead 6-0. After Jerrick Suiter (TCU) took one for the team, John Norwood (Vanderbilt) ripped an RBI single to give the Chinooks a commanding 7-0 lead and ultimately the win.
Manager Eddy Morgan stated, "We bunched together some quality at bats which resulted in runs. It was a beautiful day at the park got some runs and a great pitching performance can't ask for anything better."
The Chinooks (7-1) are back at Kapco Park tomorrow to finish the 16 inning marathon game against the Madison Mallards at 5:30 PM and will play their scheduled game vs. Madison at 7:05 PM. The 7:05 game will be a 7 inning game. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ryan Krill wall decal and can enjoy the delicious Leinenkugel's Honey Weiss Friday Fish Fry!
