Bruins Defeat Devils 5-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins improved their record to (24-16-0-3) and extended their winning streak to four games in a 5-1 win against the Albany Devils this evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Max Sauvé tallied two goals, while Ryan Spooner, Carter Camper, Torey Krug, Craig Cunningham extended their point streaks to four games. Michael Hutchinson recorded 20 saves in the victory.

Providence came out hungry for their second win against Albany this season after winning a game and losing a game in shootouts in their previous two matchups. A delay of game penalty on Albany's Brandon Burlon gave the Bruins their first power play opportunity of the night just a minute into the game. They had several chances, but just couldn't connect. Both sides played evenly throughout the first period until the last few minutes when the Bruins took the lead. At 18:33, Sauvé took a pass behind the net from Spooner and scored on a wrap-around to give Providence a 1-0 lead. Matt Bartkowski was also awarded an assist on the play. Just over a minute later at 19:39, Krug put Providence ahead by two after his shot from the point deflected off an Albany defenseman and through Keith Kinkaid's (33 saves) five hole. Cunningham was awarded the assist on the play.

Providence dominated the middle frame, putting 18 shots on net and only allowing 7. The first big opportunity of the period came when Trent Whitfield set up Alden Hirschfeld in the slot for a one timer. Kinkaid was able to get a glove on it to keep the game 2-0. 6:11 into the second period, the Bruins made it 3-0 when Spooner passed the puck to David Warsofsky at the point, who skated the puck halfway down the boards before passing to Sauvé in the slot, who was able to put the puck home. Just over a minute later, Corbin McPherson was given a penalty for interference and the Bruins were given their second power play of the night. Unlike the first power play, however, Providence was able to find the back of the net on this one. Krug passed the puck to Camper on the half-boards, who remained poised with the puck as he waited for an opportunity to make a play. Seeing Spooner open, Camper made a pass across the slot to Spooner who netted the fourth goal of the night. The Bruins remained solid on defense when they went on their first penalty kill of the night as Bobby Robins went to the box for roughing at 14:07 in the. Almost immediately after Robins was out of the box, the Bruins went on their third power play of the night when Alexander Urbom was given a holding penalty. Krug, who had several chances throughout the night, had the best opportunity on the power play when he took a slap shot from the point off a pass from Spooner. Kinklaid made the save.

Despite being down 4-0, Albany wasn't ready to throw in the towel and came out flying in the third period. They dominated most of the period and had many opportunities. They scored their only goal of the game just 3:53 into the final frame when Bobby Butler, from the corner, gave the puck to Tim Sestito who came through the slot uncovered. Sestito deked Hutchinson to score and cut the lead to three goals. Eight minutes into the period, Providence had one of their best chances of the game when a pass from Graham Mink put Sauvé on a breakaway. The Bruins sealed the win with their fifth goal of the night at 16:31 when Spooner, at the point, passed the puck down to Kyle MacKinnon by the goal line, who was able to find the back of the net at a near-impossible angle.
