Tyler Rennette to Join Rivermen Hall of Fame

February 1, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release

Tyler Rennette, who played 298 games with the ECHL Rivermen between 2000 and 2005, will officially be inducted into the Peoria Rivermen Hockey Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 30. The only member of this year's class, Rennette will become the 35th member - 24th player - to join the Hall of Fame since it began in 1991.

The ceremony will take place, on the ice, during the first intermission of the Rivermen game against Lake Erie.

Rennette, 33, first joined the Rivermen in 2000 - his second year of professional hockey after being sent down from AHL Worcester late in the season. After only playing seven games during the regular season, in which he scored five goals and added an assist, Rennette scored nine more times in 14 playoff games for the defending Kelly Cup champions.

He returned for the next four seasons on teams that featured fellow Rivermen Hall of Famers Joe Rybar (2008) and Trevor Baker (2009) and were coached by Jason Christie (2010). He pumped in 73 goals in 130 regular season games over a two-season stretch (2002-04). He set career highs in both goals (42) and points (74) in 2002-03 while he also led the ECHL with seven shorthanded goals and ranked third with a plus-30 rating.

Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (#40 overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, the center racked up 119 goals and 118 assists for 237 points in 267 regular season games with the Rivermen. He pitched in another 11 goals and 7 assists in 31 playoff contests.

Rennette's final season on the ice for Peoria was the team's final season as a member of the ECHL (2004-05). He went on to play two more years, in the United Hockey League, before returning to the Rivermen for the 2007-08 season as a member of the front office. Now an account manager for Brewers Distributing, Rennette still lives in Peoria with his wife and three children.

There are currently 34 members of the Rivermen Hall of Fame, comprised of two wings. There are 24 players and five coaches along with five members of the Builders Wing. This will be the fourth consecutive season in which only one new member is elected following Baker's induction in 2009, Christie's in 2010 and Jean-Guy Trudel in 2011.

Rennette is the seventh member to represent the ECHL-era joining Doug Evans (1991), Rybar (2008), Don Granato (2008), Baker and Christie.
