Audy-Marchessault Named CCM/AHL Player of the Month
February 1, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced on Friday that Springfield Falcons left wing Jonathan Audy-Marchessault has been named the CCM/AHL Player of the Month for January.
Audy-Marchessault, who was recalled earlier this week by Columbus and made his NHL debut for the Blue Jackets on Thursday, led all AHL skaters in January with 17 points (8g-9a) as Springfield went 8-3-1-0 in the first month of 2013. He is the first Falcon to win the CCM/AHL Player of the Month honor since the award was first given out in 2007-2008.
The second-year pro from Quebec City recorded five multi-point games during the month and collected his first-career hat trick in a 7-5 Falcons victory in Manchester on Jan. 15. Audy-Marchessault paced the Falcons with two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win in Providence on Jan. 6 and a 4-2 victory over the Bruins at the MassMutual Center on Jan. 12. He notched his first two game-winning goals of the season, scored four times on the power play, and accumulated a +5 rating during the month as well. The 22-year-old also compiled a seven-game point streak (7g-7a) from Jan. 6 to 20.
Audy-Marchessault leads Springfield with 45 points and 29 assists, placing him third and in a tie for second in the league in those categories, respectively, while also adding 16 goals. He participated in his second-straight AHL All-Star Classic earlier this week and scored a goal for the Eastern Conference in a 7-6 defeat. As a rookie in 2011-2012 with Connecticut, Audy-Marchessault tied for the Whale lead with 64 points and topped the club's skaters with 40 assists.
Audy-Marchessault is the second Falcon to garner a monthly honor in 2012-2013. Curtis McElhinney secured the CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month Award for October earlier this season.
In recognition of his achievement, Audy-Marchessault will receive an etched crystal award.
The Falcons return from the All-Star break tonight when they take on the Syracuse Crunch in a highly-anticipated matchup at the MassMutual Center. Springfield and Syracuse have two of the AHL's top three records during the 17th week of the 2012-2013 campaign.
Tonight's game at the MassMutual Center is "Pride Stations & Stores Night at The Nest," and fans can purchase discounted tickets to the game by visiting Pride's Facebook page at Facebook.com/PrideStores. Fans in attendance on Friday will also have the opportunity to win a brand new, high-definition television courtesy of Manny's TV & Appliances as part of "Flat-Screen Friday."
