
Stars Squeeze by Houston Aeros 2-1

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (21-16-4-3, 49 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (30-14-2-2, 60 points) 2-1 on Friday night in front of a season-high 11,315 fans at Toyota Center. Trailing 1-0 heading into the third period, the Stars erupted for two goals over a six-minute span to claim a one-goal victory on the road. Defenseman Tyler Sloan netted the game-winning goal at 12:19 of the third period, pushing the Stars past their in-state. Texas goalie Jack Campbell (8-5-2) claimed the win with 16 saves on 17 shots. Houston goalie Darcy Kuemper (8-5-0) suffered the loss with 22 saves. Aeros forward Johan Larsson scored his team's lone goal. Houston will return home to host Texas on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center.
The Aeros took a 1-0 lead at 8:32 of the first period, as Johan Larsson finished off a cross-ice pass from Steven Kampfer. Houston worked the puck around with Jason Zucker starting the cycle and Larsson closing the play with his 12th goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period, Texas tied the game 1-1 at 7:48 of the final frame. Matt Fraser's initial shot was blocked by an Aeros defender. Fraser then snapped the loose puck through traffic and past Darcy Kuemper for the game-tying goal. His 21st of the season was assisted by Reilly Smith and Colton Sceviour. The Stars pushed in front 2-1 with Tyler Sloan's second goal of the season. Reilly Smith set up the go-ahead goal at 12:19, finding Sloan in the faceoff circle for the tally. Fraser added the second assist on the play.
The Aeros will stay on home ice on Sunday, Feb. 3 with a 12:05 p.m. faceoff against the Rockford Ice Hogs. Every Sunday game is a Family Day, with four tickets, parking and four Aeros gifts starting at just $54. Houston wraps a three-game home stand with San Antonio on Monday, Feb. 4 at 7:05 p.m.
