Wichita, KS - Amarillo Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown earned his third shutout of the season, stopping all 41 Wichita Thunder shots on net en route to the 6-0 victory Saturday night.
After the Thunder scored the first three goals in last night's meeting versus the Gorillas, Amarillo countered with the first three tallies Saturday. Forward Anthony Battaglia found David Nimmo parked in front of the Wichita net who slammed his shot past Wichita goaltender Scott Campbell at the 7:42 mark. Less than four minutes later, Jason Chafe took advantage of a Campbell rebound for his sixth on the season. The Gorillas earned their third goal when Joe Guenther sprung free on a breakaway opportunity. Guenther slipped his backhand shot past Campbell to give Amarillo the 3-0 lead after one period.
The Gorillas added two more goals in the second period with contributions from Joe Guenther at the 5:21 mark and Erik Felde's deflection tally less than two minutes remaining in the frame. Wichita threw 12 shots on goal in the frame, but Gorillas netminder Mike Brown stopped every scoring bid, as Amarillo led 5-0 going into the second intermission.
Chris Cloud scored Amarillo's sixth goal of the game at the 13:12 mark of the third period, while Mike Brown made all 15 saves in the period to give Amarillo the 6-0 win.
