Thunder Blanked by Gorillas

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 6-0 to the Amarillo Gorillas at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night. The Gorillas opened a 3-0 lead after one, breaking a scoreless first period at 7:42. David Nimmo finished a scramble in front of the net, slipping a loose puck under the left side of Scott Campbell. Gordon Bell scored on another scramble at 11:43 to make it 2-0. Joe Guenther deked from lefto to right on a breakaway, scoring at 17:45, on a shot that Campbell appeared to deflect with his stick but then slid under his right arm.

Amarillo extended the lead to 4-0 at 5:21 in the second on the power play. Joe Guenther took a backdoor pass from Anthony Battaglia, lifting the puck under the left corner of the net. Erik Felde re-directed Stuart MacRae's shot from the high slot past the right of Campbell at 18:49 to make it 5-0. Amarillo added a sixth goal at 13:12 in the third. Chris Cloud's centering pass on a three-on-one was blocked, but bounced right back to his stick. Cloud finished his shot and scored under the right corner of the goal.

Wichita was 0 for 6 on the power play, while Amarillo was 1 for 3. Campbell saved 27 of 33 in the loss. Mike Brown saved 41 of 41 to earn the shutout win. The Thunder tied their season-high in shots on goal with 41.
