Brown Pitches Grizzlies to Season Opening Win against Crushers

AVON, OH - Tim Brown worked eight masterful innings and the Gateway Grizzlies held on for a 3-2 victory against the Lake Erie Crushers Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium in the season opener.

Brown (1-0) allowed only one run on six hits in his eight innings of work. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO picked up his 13th career win in a Grizzlies uniform. Brown walked one and struck out three.

The Grizzlies jumped out to an early lead in the third inning and never trailed in the game. Antone DeJesus led off the third with a double and came around to score on a Chris McClendon RBI single.

After Lake Erie (0-1) scored their first run of the game in the fourth on an RBI groundout, Gateway (1-0) received an RBI groundout from Jonathan Johnson in the fifth to make it 3-1. Johnson drove in DeJesus, who walked and stole second base.

Richard Barrett allowed a run in the ninth inning, but left the game tying run on second base to finish off the game and get the save.

Gateway and Lake Erie play the middle game of the series on Saturday night in Ohio. Right-hander Ja'Vaun West gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 EST.
