Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford Aviators (0-1), presented by Pearson, battled until the final out, but errers allowed the Frontier Greys (1-0) to score enough to pull out the win in the first game of the season by a final score of 4-3.

The Greys got on the board first when three errors from shortstop Ted Obregon allowed the visiting club to plate three unearned runs in the third.

After being stymied for the first four innings by Greys' starter and eventual winning pitcher, Eric Wooten (1-0), the Aviators were able to strike back with two in the bottom of the fifth when third baseman Evan Button followed a Michael Hur double with a line-drive home run to the Budweiser Party Porch in right to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Greys.

The Greys were able to plate an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Tyler Kolodny led off with a double and, after a groundout by Kenny Gilbert, scored on an RBI double from Mark Micowski and the Greys led 4-2.

Rockford made things interesting in the ninth. Alvaro Ramirez led off with an infield single. Two batters later, Kenny Bryant singled to put runners on the corners. A past ball allowed Ramirez to score to pull the Aviators to within one run. With the bases loaded, Jeremy Boyd grounded back to the mound to end the game.

Rockford starter Drew Rucinski (0-1) took the loss but pitched seven strong innings, struck out seven and gave up just one earned run.

The teams will play again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free magnetic schedule, courtesy of Rockford Health System and NTA-FM.
