Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - RHP Zack Brown and 2B Keston Hiura have been named the Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Month in the Milwaukee Brewers organization for the month of May.
Brown, the #23 prospect for the Brewers according to MLB Pipeline, made six starts in May, going 3-0 with a 1.62 ERA. The righty struck out 34 batters in 39 innings, including a career-high ten against the Mississippi Braves on the final day of the month. Brown has matched his career-high seven innings pitched on several occasions, including three times in May, where he allowed 11 total hits over the 21 innings in those three starts. The former fifth-round pick out of Kentucky leads the Shuckers on the season with 65.1 innings pitched.
Currently, Brown is fifth in ERA in the Southern League (2.76), second in innings pitched (65.1) and tied for third in strikeouts (62). He is also third in base runners per nine innings ratio (10.19). The righty is slated to start on Tuesday night against Pensacola.
Hiura was added to the Shuckers' roster on June 1, but it was his numbers in May the propelled him to the Double-A level. In 29 games, the Brewers' #1 prospect hit .377 with six home runs, 17 RBI and 29 runs scored. He also added 13 doubles and a pair of triples along with three stolen bases. His 46 hits in May were good for second in all of Minor League Baseball.
The UC Irvine product is working on a ten-game hitting streak dating back to May 24. His active on-base streak sits at 17 games. MLB Pipeline also selected Hiura as a part of their Prospect Team of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The Shuckers continue their ten-game road trip with a 6:35 PM CT first pitch in Pensacola on Monday night. Their series with the Blue Wahoos concludes on Thursday, and they begin a five-game set in Jacksonville Friday night. Biloxi returns to MGM Park on Wednesday, June 13, to take on the M-Braves as they wrap up the first half of the regular season.
