Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham Barons Manager Ryan Newman and his staff will lead the North Division as the brightest talent in the Southern League comes to Regions Field for the 2018 All-Star Game presented by Wind Creek Wetumpka on June 19.
Newman is currently in his second stint as the Barons' manager and has been with the White Sox organization since 2009. Joining Newman and representing this year's host city will be Barons hitting coach Cole Armstrong, pitching coach Richard Dotson, athletic trainer Cory Barton and strength coach Tim Rodmaker.
Opposite Newman and leading the South Division is two-time MLB All-Star and current Pensacola Blue Wahoos' manager Jody Davis. Blue Wahoos' hitting coach Mike Devereaux, pitching coach James Baldwin, bench coach Lenny Harris, and athletic trainer Tyler Moos make up the rest of Davis' field staff.
Devereaux, an 11-year veteran of the majors, began and ended his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers; however, he took most of his at bats with the Baltimore Orioles. A late trade from Baltimore to Atlanta punched Devereuax's ticket to the 1995 postseason where he was named the NLCS MVP and helped the Braves to win the World Series.
Harris played eighteen years in the National League at a variety of positions including third base, second base, right field, left field, first base, shortstop, designated hitter, center field, and one scoreless inning as a pitcher. He set a number of records as a pinch hitter and was one of the last players to be kept on a major league roster as a full-time pinch-hitter.
Baldwin played in the majors from 1995-2005, spending the majority of his career with the Chicago White Sox. In 2000, he earned a spot on the American League All-Star team after working his way to an 11-4 start with the White Sox. Coming up through the White Sox farm system, Baldwin spent the 1993 season with the Birmingham Barons.
The North Division roster will be announced Tuesday, June 5, with the South Division roster following on June 6. Starting lineups and pitchers will follow on June 7 (North) and 8 (South).
