Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Brontos, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, held their 'What Could Have Been' Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction Saturday night, sponsored by KUZZ 107.9 and Bud Light. The jersey auction raised $19,500 for the Petroleum Shrine Club. Andrew Ianiero's jersey fetched the top price of night going for $1,700.
The team name "Brontos" finished as a finalist along with the name "Condors" 11 years ago, when the team's name changed from the Fog. The specialty jerseys included the Brontos logo, nearly identical to one of the preliminary mock-ups for the team logo, featuring a bipedal brontosaurus wearing hockey gear, skates and holding a hockey stick. One minor alteration to the original logo was a burgundy Condors jersey that the Bronto was wearing. Above the bronto were the words Bakersfield Brontos in a Stone Age style font. The Brontos jerseys were dark and light gray with green trim with a scaly appearance similar to the skin of a dinosaur. The jersey also featured a fossilized brontosaurus footprint above the player's number on the shoulders of the jersey.
The money raised from Saturday night's auction will help local children with physical disabilities by providing children prosthetic limbs, plastic surgery for burn victims, covering medical expenses, and more.
"We'd like to thank the Condors and the fans for supporting us," said Petroleum Shriners Treasurer Charlie Barfield. "When you see one of the kids that benefits from the services, it makes you feel amazing."
