Brilliant Lloyd Carries Sod Poodles to Close Win

North Little Rock, Arkansas - Sod Poodles right-hander Kyle Lloyd was dominant in seven scoreless innings on Saturday night at Dickey-Stephens Park, powering Amarillo to a close 1-0 win against the Arkansas Travelers.

Lloyd allowed six hits while striking out six batters on 91 pitches, picking up his eighth win of the season in the process.

Travelers starter Logan Gilbert was also solid, throwing six scoreless innings as the game went to the seventh inning with a 0-0 score.

In the top of the seventh, Owen Miller laced a one-out double into the right field corner against Travelers righty Jack Anderson. Amarillo then loaded the bases before Kyle Overstreet hit a sac fly to score Miller and give the Soddies a 1-0 lead.

Lloyd returned for the bottom of the seventh and worked around a leadoff single to secure his seven scoreless frames.

In the eighth, righty Javy Guerra tossed a scoreless eighth while stranding the tying run on third base.

Right-hander David Bednar entered for the ninth with Amarillo leading 1-0. Bednar proceeded to strike out the side en route to picking up his 13th save of the season. It was Bednar's 11th consecutive scoreless appearance.

The Sod Poodles and Travelers wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch at 2:10 p.m. Amarillo sends righty Ronald Bolaños to the mound while the Travs counter with lefty Ricardo Sanchez.

NOTES

Bednar's Brilliance: Right-hander David Bednar delivered his 11th consecutive scoreless appearance with his scoreless ninth inning on Saturday night.

Bednar, who picked up his 13th save of the season by striking out the side on Saturday night.

Lloyd Returns to Form: Right-hander Kyle Lloyd bounced back with a terrific outing on Saturday night, tossing seven scoreless innings for his eighth victory of the season. Lloyd lowered his ERA with the Sod Poodles to 3.84.

The outing followed Lloyd's outing on August 17, when he allowed nine earned runs and 13 hits in 3.1 innings. Both were career highs allowed.
