MISSOULA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey (21-23, 2-4) dropped a 4-3 game in Helena to the Brewers (21- 23, 4-2) from Kindrick Legion Field Tuesday.
Through the first two innings, neither team could tag on a run against the starting pitchers. Missoula's Andy Toelken allowed three base hits, but the right-hander worked four groundouts to keep the game scoreless through two.
Helena broke through in the third inning with three runs, courtesy of RBI base hits from Yeison Coca, David Fry, and Chad McClanahan to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead.
Through the first four innings offensively, Missoula could muster just two base runners, both walks from Buddy Kennedy. It took until the fifth for the Osprey to record their first base hit as Nick Dalesandro led off with a walk. Jesus Munoz then singled to put two men on, and David Sanchez singled up the middle to score Dalesandro and make it a 3-1 game.
Pedro Zorrilla entered the game for Missoula in the fifth on the mound and worked a scoreless inning as the Osprey closed the gap with a run in the sixth. Kennedy led off the inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI single from Dalesandro to cut the lead to 3-2.
Missoula worked a double play ball in the bottom of the inning to keep the game within a run after an Osprey error. Zorrilla then wiggled out of a jam in the seventh as two runners were stranded by Helena to keep the game 3-2.
Helena added an insurance run in the eighth when Chad McClanahan drilled a solo home run off Cristofer Ogando to push the lead to 4-2.
Brandon Leyton grooved a solo home run in the top of the ninth for the Osprey to pull the game within one, but Peter Strysleski struck out the final batter of the game to give Helena a 4-3 win.
Missoula returns home against Helena Wednesday for a 7:05 pm first pitch at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The Selway Armory Pregame Show begins at 6:45 pm on 102.9 ESPN Missoula and the MiLB First Pitch App.
