Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Third baseman Jace Brewer's two-RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Oklahoma RedHawks a 3-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs Thursday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
The RedHawks entered the bottom of the ninth inning down 2-0. Adam Hyzdu led off the inning with a single, but was erased on a fielder's choice ground ball by Jason Hart. After Jamie Burke walked, RedHawk newcomer Anthony Webster singled to right field to bring home Hart and make the score 2-1.
Adrian Brown then walked to load the bases for Brewer. It was the second time Brewer has been involved in a walk-off win for the RedHawks. He scored the winning run on a single by Nick Trzesniak in their 3-2 win over Albuquerque May 31.
RedHawks starter Edinson Volquez went seven innings and gave up one run on two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Wes Littleton pitched a perfect ninth inning and picked up his fourth win. The RedHawks are now 9-0 in games Littleton has appeared.
Burke and Hyzdu both had two hits to lead the RedHawks offensively. Bernie Castro was two-for-four with a double for New Orleans.
New Orleans took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo homer by Mike Vento. They extended the lead to 2-0 in the eighth on an RBI double by Henry Mateo.
The RedHawks are now two games above .500 for the first time since April 15 and in sole possession of third place for the first time since April 21.
The RedHawks and Zephyrs will meet again at 7:05 p.m. Friday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Nick Masset is scheduled to start for the RedHawks and Steve Watkins for the Zephyrs.
