Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis used an outstanding performance from starter Dennis Tankersley and shutout Albuquerque 2-0 Thursday night at AutoZone Park.

Tankersley (3-8) was impressive in his seven scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out nine and scattered three hits with a pair of walks in his third win of the season. After striking out the side in the first Tankersley stranded runners at second and third with a ground out and a strikeout in the second inning. In the third he struck out Todd Sears to leave the bases loaded, and in the sixth he dodged a final bullet with another strike out by getting former Redbird Scott Seabol. Tankersley fanned nine in his last outing, as well, and has struck out 25 in his last three starts combined.

Memphis made Tankersley a winner with two runs in the seventh inning. After singles from John Nelson and Brian Martin, Mike Rose doubled to left to score Nelson and Skip Schumaker hit a sacrifice fly to score Martin from third. Brian Falkenborg made sure those two runs held up with a perfect ninth to earn his eleventh save of the season. The shutout is just the second for the ‘Birds this season.

The Redbirds and Isotopes will play the third game of the five-game series tomorrow night. Memphis is expected to activate John Webb (3-6) from the disabled list tomorrow in order to start tomorrow night. Albuquerque will send Yusmeiro Petit (1-1) to the hill. Game time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
