January 6, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 6) - The Texas Brahmas, formerly known as the Fort Worth Brahmas, have announced today a return to Fort Worth.
The Brahmas will play two home games, Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3 at 7:30pm against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Tickets are on sale now for these two games.
The Brahmas were recently approached by the city offering the team a chance to return to its original roots.
"We are very excited about this unique opportunity," said Brahmas majority owner Stuart Fraser. "Our goal is to bring tremendous crowds downtown which will be great for our season ticket holders, our sponsors and sports fans in general."
The Brahmas also aim to encourage citizens throughout the greater Fort Worth area to attend the contests.
"We believe this will bring additional business to downtown Fort Worth while also exposing a new group of hockey fans to these games," said Mike Barack, President of the Brahmas.
The Brahmas began playing in Fort Worth in 1997 as a part of the Western Professional Hockey League, before transferring to the Central Hockey League for the 2001-02 season. The team left Fort Worth in 2006 and re-established the franchise in North Richland Hills before the 2007-08 season, changing its name to the Texas Brahmas and playing its games at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
After each game at the Convention Center, the Brahmas will hold an on-site, live jersey auction, offering fans the opportunity to bid on the limited edition sweaters worn by the team that night.
The Brahmas are also running two exciting promotions over the weekend. Friday, March 2 is Cap Night, at which the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Brahmas cap. Saturday, March 3 is Star Wars Night, when characters from the famous trilogy will be in attendance to greet fans and take photos. Season ticket holders and sponsors holding tickets for either game will receive corresponding seat locations at the Convention Center. Special VIP rooms and ticket promotions will be announced in the near future.
In addition to the Brahmas games, the Junior A Brahmas will also be playing at the Convention Center that weekend - once on Saturday, March 3 at 1:00pm and again on Sunday, March 4 at 11:00am.
There has been a longstanding history of hockey in Fort Worth dating back to the 1940s. Teams have included the Rangers, Wings, Texans, Fire and Brahmas.
