Blaze's Nikiforov Named December CHL Star
January 6, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
After collecting 20 points in 15 games during the month, Bloomington Blaze forward Vladimir Nikiforov has been named one of the Central Hockey League Oakley Three Stars for December.
The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, signed the Russian native during the last week of November, and has become the leading scorer on the current active Blaze roster. Nikiforov registered nine goals and 11 assists during December, and three of his lamp-lighters were game-winning goals. He also holds a plus-minus rating of +1, with a total of 10 goals and 13 assists. The Long Island, New York resident is the third star of the month, as forward Jesse Schultz of Rapid City earned the second star and Fort Wayne goaltender Nick Boucher earned the number one star.
The Blaze face the Evansville IceMen for three straight games this weekend to conclude the first half of the season, with the contests tonight and Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tonight's 7:05 face-off features Pepsi Date Night, when fans who bring a Pepsi product to the box office when buying a reserved seat ticket receive a second ticket free, and with the purchase of any combo meal, the second meal of equal or lesser value is free. Saturday features the annual Guns and Hoses game, as Bloomington police and firefighters play on U.S. Cellular Coliseum ice at 4 p.m. followed by the Blaze-IceMen affair at 7:05. Fans can enjoy both games for the same admission. The Blaze will wear special jerseys during their game to be auctioned after the contest, with proceeds going to Special Olympics Illinois. Also on Saturday, the first 1,200 fans receive a Blaze T-shirt compliments of B-104 and Mid-Illini Credit Union.
