Gems Acquire Former CHL Rookie of the Year Nimmo from Arizona

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the "AA" Central Hockey League, announced the acquisition of forward David Nimmo in a trade with the Arizona Sundogs in exchange for future considerations.

Nimmo, a 29 year old native of St. Albert, Alberta, joins the Gems after suiting up in 31 games for the CHL's Arizona Sundogs this season, earning 24 points (7 Goals, 17 Assists). The lefty skates into Dayton listed as 6'2 and weighting 220 pounds.

Prior to his stint in the desert, Nimmo has seen action as a member of the Allen Americans and Ammarillo Gorillas of the CHL, and with the Reading Royals and Florida Everblades in the ECHL. His 2008 season began oversees, playing 15 games for the Edinburgh Capitals of the British Elite Hockey League before returning to North America.

Named the Central Hockey League "Rookie of the Year" in 2007-2008 while playing for Amarillo, posting 41 goals and 43 assists for a whopping 84 points in just 64 games in his first professional campaign.

Prior to turning professional, Nimmo played a full four NCAA seasons at the University of Alabama-Huntsville after finishing his junior career with the Melfort Mustangs in Saskatchewan.

The Gems take on the first place Fort Wayne Komets this weekend in a 3-in-3 series beginning Friday night in Fort Wayne, before moving inside the historic Hara Arena in Dayton on Saturday for "Salute to Beer League Hockey Night" at 7pm. Both teams will conclude the series with an afternoon matinee back in Fort Wayne on Sunday.
