Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

RAPID CITY, S.D.- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (14-12-5) fell in overtime to the Rapid City Rush (17-12-1) on Friday night in the team's first ever visit to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Bees had a few great opportunities in the extra frame but it was a Rapid City goal with 16.4 seconds that won the game.

The Killer Bees struck first at 7:14 of the first period with a power-play goal by Dan Gendur. Brandon Campos slid the puck across the zone to Gendur who wristed it past Danny Battachio high glove side. For Gendur it was his 6th goal of the season and 26th point.

The Bees looked as they'd head to the locker room up a goal but a late four-on-four draw in the Bees zone proved devastating as Rapid City scored with only 0.3 seconds remaining on the clock. Collin Circelli was credited with the goal.

Wyle Rogers made nine saves on 10 shots in the first period.

Each team would attempt ten shots in the second period but both goalies turned away each opportunity as the score remained tied at one after forty minutes of play.

Rapid City took their first lead of the game in the third period as Collin Circelli and Konrad Reeder came in on a two-on-one a scored. For Circelli it was his second goal of the game.

The Killer Bees would tie the game at two at the 12:27 mark of the third period. Aaron Boogaard scored his third of the season as the Bees registered their second power-play goal of the game.

In the overtime period the Bees would get two great opportunities but a penalty was killed off by Rapid City and a Jason Dixon penalty shot was stopped by Danny Battachio.

As the overtime came winding down the Bees got caught down low allowing the Rush to come down three-on-one. After Wylie Rogers made the first save the loose puck was scored by Carl Hudson with only 16.4 seconds to play in the extra frame.

The Killer Bees take on the Rapid City Rush tomorrow night in game two of their series. The puck drops at 8:05 p.m. and fans can follow the game on 956sports.com and CHL-TV.
