Brahmas Comeback on Thunder

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder fell 5-2 to the Texas Brahmas on Friday night at the Kansas Coliseum. Wichita let a 2-1 lead slip away in a span of 29 seconds in the second period, before the Brahmas added two insurance goals midway through the third.

Nathan Saunders scored on a low slapshot from the point on a Texas power play at 8:31 in the first period for the first goal of the night. Chris Tarkir tied the game on a backhand shot to the right of Brahmas' goaltender Brett Jaeger at 2:35 in the second. At 8:36, Troy Ofukany hit the back of the net, also with a backhander, moving Wichita in front 2-1.

The lead held up until the 11:53 mark when Travis Banga scored on a turnover in the slot, ripping a wrist shot past John Daigneau to tie the game at 2-2. 29 seconds later, Matt Quinn tipped in a loose puck after Daigneau was pinned down on the right side of the crease to help Texas regain the lead.

The Brahmas added goals from Pete Rouleau on the power play and Matt Burto in the third period to put the game away. Devin Guy earned a fighting major against the Brahmas' Nathan Saunders.

Daigneau took the loss, saving 20 of 25 shots. Jaeger earned the victory, saving 18 of 29. Wichita was 0 for 3 on the power play, while going 5 for 7 on the penalty kill. The loss was the Thunder's fifth in a row.

Wichita hosts the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night at the Coliseum. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans in attanedance will receive a commemorative 2008-09 Thunder team photo. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
