What a finish! IceRays beat Bees 1-0

Adam Powell snapped a scoreless tie late in regulation and Kris Tebbs made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Corpus Christi IceRays beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Friday night from the American Bank Center. The win was the third in the last four games against the Bees and improved Corpus Christi's record to 26-29-5 on the season, and moved them two points in front of the Arizona Sundogs and six points ahead of the New Mexico Scorpions pending the result of their game late Friday. The three teams are in a tight race for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference. The IceRays and Bees will remain at the American Bank Center for a Saturday night rematch at 7pm on Pack the House for Charity Night. There are just two home games left. The teams played an even opening period, where the IceRays outshot the Killer Bees 11-9, but neither team found the back of the net.

The game remained scoreless into the second period as the teams continued their back and forth play. The IceRays outshot the Killer Bees 11-10 in the period.

The IceRays killed off a carry-over penalty from the second period and two early penalties in the third period setting the stage for Powell's heroics. At 16:55 Chris Richards found Ryan Bennett in the right circle. Bennett let a shot that went wide but Powell was planted just past the left side of the crease and caromed the rebound into the net for the game's only goal. The American Bank Center crowd erupted, and Corpus Christi was able to hold off the Bees late for the victory.

Kris Tebbs (22-19-4) earned the wim making 25 saves on 25 shots. Wylie Rogers (17-9-3) suffered the loss making 28 saves on 29 shots. The IceRays power play went 0-4 and the Bees went 0-5 on the man advantage. The IceRays outshot the Killer Bees 29-25.

The IceRays and Killer Bees return to the American Bank Center on Saturday night for a rematch on Pack the House For Charity Night.
