Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 2)-With a first place tie for the Southeast division on the line, the Texas Brahmas (19-9-3) were able to defeat the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-3 in a shootout at the NYTEX Sports Centre Friday night.
The 'Rays jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the opening period with a pair of even strength goals from Adam Powell. Texas was down but not out, and with the assistance of the CHL's Player of the Month of December, Jordan Cameron, were able to answer back with three goals in a span of four minutes.
The first goal came from defenseman Nathan Saunders for his first goal of the season from Scott Sheppard and Tyler Skworchinski. Greg McConnell followed up with a goal of his own from Cameron and Eric Lundberg to even the game at 2-2.
Texas found themselves on the powerplay late in the first, and took advantage 22 seconds in with a goal from Grant Jacobsen. McConnell and Justin Kinnunen were credited with the assists to give the Brahmas the 3-2 lead going into the intermission.
A Corpus Christi goal from Jeff Grant at the 15:19 mark in the second ended Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola's evening early, placing Brett Jaeger between the pipes. Cacciola stopped 15 of 18 shots.
Texas was able to do all their damage Wednesday night against Corpus Christi in the third, and with the game tied at three going into the final period, the Brahmas looked to do the same Friday. But, the IceRays came out strong sending the game to overtime, and eventually a shootout.
Jaeger played strong in the shootout, giving up only one goal and Texas scorers did the rest, challenging Dustin Traylen with three goals. Texas scorers were Kevin McLeod, Scott Sheppard and Matt Burto.
