Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have signed defenseman Preston Briggs, who played with the club during its inaugural season in 2006-07. The third-year pro is slated to be in the line-up tonight when the Rage battle the New Mexico Scorpions in Rio Rancho, N.M.

Briggs, who grew up and played his youth hockey in Colorado Springs, has spent the last year and a half playing in the ECHL. Last season he recorded seven assists and 78 penalty minutes in 68 games with the Pensacola Ice Pilots before joining the Gwinnett (Ga.) Gladiators this year for whom he registered three points (1g-2a) and 20 penalty minutes in 28 games.

"Preston strengthens the overall depth of our blue line where we've been playing short-handed the last couple of weeks," said Rage Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland. "I know he's worked hard on his game and gained valuable experience in the ECHL. I'm happy he's back with us."

Immediately following a four-year career at Mercyhurst College, Briggs turned pro and spent eight games with the ECHL's Dayton Bombers. He then played three games with the Central Hockey League's Oklahoma City Blazers before appearing in a total of 25 games over two different stints with Rocky Mountain during his first full professional season. The 6-foot-4, 200 lb. d-man tied a Rage team record by posting a +5 rating in the final game of the 2006-07 campaign, a 5-2 win over New Mexico during which he also registered one goal and one assist.

The Rage face-off against the Scorpions tonight at 7:15 p.m. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on ESPN Radio 1600 beginning at 7 p.m. with the pre-game show. Live audio and video streaming will also be carried on the CHL Network at www.rockymountainrage.com.

Following tonight's tilt, Rocky Mountain heads home to Broomfield Event Center to host the Amarillo Gorillas tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. and the Rapid City Rush on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 3:05 p.m.
