LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League will play their first game of 2009 Saturday night, when they host Division Rival Texas at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Game time is 7:30pm.

The Bucks look to start 2009 like they ended 2008, with a win on home ice. Laredo improved their CHL-best home mark to 14-3, with a 8-3 drubbing of Rio Grande Valley on New Year's Eve. Laredo's eight goals Wednesday night is a season high.
Ryan Salvis netted two goals in the contest, with Bobby Russell picking up four points (1-3=4) to lead Laredo to the win. Russell's three assists Wednesday are a season high for the Veteran.
With three points in Wednesday's win, Jeff Bes sits very close to two another milestones in his career. Bes comes into Saturday's game against the Brahmas with 497 career points as a Laredo Buck, putting him three away from 500.
Bes is sits at 893 career points, just seven away from 900 in his 17 year career.
Saturday's game will mark the first of the New Year for Laredo. The Bucks are 6-0 all-time when playing the first game of a New Calendar Year, including 5-0 at the LEC.
The Brahmas will host Corpus Christi on Friday night, before making the long trek to Laredo for Saturday's game.
Texas has won five of their last six games, including three straight on the road.
The Brahmas enter Friday's game at Corpus Christi just two points behind the Bucks in the Southeast Division.
Grant Jacobsen leads the Brahmas in scoring with 29 points (10-19=29).
Laredo will travel to Rio Grande Valley Tuesday night, before hosting Bossier-Shreveport and Corpus Christi next weekend. The Bucks will host "Pink in the Rink" on Friday against Bossier. . If the Bucks sell out the game with 8,002 fans, the team will donate $10,000 to Wings.
