NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 5)- The Brahmas sent their crustaceous foe back down I-20 with heads down as they beat the Mudbugs 4-2 Saturday evening for their third straight victory.
A struggling Texas powerplay was put to the job at the 8:06 mark in the opening period off a Simon Mangos tripping call and were able to gain some much needed confidence against the league's last ranked penalty killing unit. Defenseman Justin Kinnunen rang a shot from the point and drilled it past 'Bugs goaltender John DeCaro for his third of the season. Helpers came from Jordan Cameron and Matt Burto on the powerplay.
Four on four hockey gave Texas the 2-0 lead when Tyler Skworchinski dazzled DeCaro three minutes into the second for the goal. The Mudbugs were able to get on the board late in the period with a powerplay goal from Tyrel Lucas.
The Brahmas defense put another marker on the powerplay, this time as Luke Sellars took advantage of a 5-on-3 for his first goal of the season. A late rally goal from Travis Clayton kept the fans at NYTEX on their feet but it was Texas' Grant Jacobsen who sent the 'Bugs packing as he notched an empty net goal with two seconds remaining in the game.
The Brahmas host their cross-town rivalry Wednesday at 7:05 PM with a game against the Allen Americans at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Fans are encouraged to bring two cans of food to participate in the Canned Food Drive in the lobby that will be distributed by the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club to a local food bank. Texas will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss Friday when they face the Arizona Sundogs Friday, December 11 at 7:05 PM. Following the Brahmas first goal Friday evening, fans are asked to toss stuffed animals onto the ice; the teddy bears will be donated to the Community Enrichment Center of North Richland Hills.
