NORFOLK, VA - The Monarchs suffered their first loss of the season, 3-2 to Norfolk, in a rematch of last season's first-round matchup in the Calder Cup Playoffs. The game featured four fights, including one less than four minutes into the contest.

Admirals winger Stefan Noesen scored the game-winning goal when he beat J.F. Berube on a breakaway at 4:09 in the third period.

The game started with two fights in the opening period. Scott Sabourin indulged Nic Kerdiles in a bout 3:52 into the first, and Kevin Raine tangled with John Kurtz less than eight minutes later.

With Sabourin in the box for too many men on the ice, David Van der Gulik slipped past the Admirals defense and buried a shot on a clean breakaway 16:08 into the first, giving Manchester a 1-0 lead. It was his first goal of the season and the Monarchs first shorthanded tally of 2014-15.

At 2:23 in the second period, Josh Gratton fought with Nate McIver and dropped the Admirals defenseman with a right hand.

A minute later, the Monarchs committed a turnover at center ice and and Nic Kerdiles fed a pass to Antoine Laganiere in the low slot, who beat Berube to tie the score at 1-1.

Matt Bailey made it 2-1 Norfolk just over two minutes later when he took a wrist shot from the point that dribbled through Berube's pads.

Manchester tied the score again thanks to Nick Shore, who took a feed from Justin Auger right on the doorstep and beat Gibson on a power play chance right before the buzzer sounded at the end of the second period.

Moments after Noesen gave the Admirals the lead in the third period, Sabourin and McIver engaged in the fourth fight of the night. Both players were ejected due to their second major penalty of the game.

The Monarchs pulled Berube inside the final minute of the game, but could not tie the score.
