Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Worcester Sharks tonight in the first game of their back-to-back matchups this weekend.
The Sharks set the tone early on when right wing Petter Emanuelsson flicked one past Providence goalie, Malcolm Subban. Worcester's James Sheppard and Rylan Schwartz were credited with the assists for the goal, which came at 3:50. Then at 9:41, Providence tied it up. Forward Justin Florek drove one past Sharks netminder Troy Grosenick off the assist from Brian Ferlin. The goal marked Florek's first of the season. The tie didn't last too long though and with 2:46 left in the first period, Worcester regained the lead. Once again it was Worcester's Petter Emanuelsson who found the back of the net to put the Sharks up 2-1. Rylan Schwartz was credited with his seconded assist on the night. The period closed out with Worcester taking the shot advantage 13-8.
While neither team scored any goals in the second period, the intensity stayed high. Bobby Robins, who was playing in his first game of the season with Providence after playing three games in Boston, threw a few punches that got the crowd going. He was sent to the penalty box to serve two minutes for roughing. At the end of the period Providence still trailed 2-1 but managed to outshoot Worcester in 12-9.
Both teams battled hard in the third period, and it looked like Providence had a chance to tie it up with 6:24 left in the period. Justin Florek put in a rebound, but the goal was called off when Craig Cunningham knocked the net loose. With a little more than two minutes to go in the game, Providence pulled goalie Malcolm Subban, whose goaltending efforts earned him the Third Star of the Game. The Second Star of the Game went to Worcester's goaltender Troy Grosenick, and the First Star of the Game went to Worcester's Petter Emanuelsson, who had two goals on the night. The final score of the game was 2-1.
The P-Bruins will get a chance to faceoff against the Worcester Sharks once again when they travel to Worcester tomorrow night.
