Monsters Fall 4-0 in Chicago
October 17, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Goaltender Roman Will made his first professional start in North America for the Lake Erie Monsters (1-2-0-0), but a 17-save shutout from opposing goalie Matt Climie preserved a 4-0 victory for the Chicago Wolves (2-0-1-0) Friday night at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Will stopped 27 of 31 shots for the Monsters, while veteran goalie Climie improved to 9-1-0-0 against the Monsters since becoming a member of the Wolves before the '11-12 season. The Monsters and Wolves will play tomorrow night at Allstate Arena at 8:00 p.m. in the second game of a five-game road swing for the Monsters.
Chicago netted the first period's only goal when Colin Fraser threaded a pass that sprung Yannick Veilleux into an open lane through the offensive end, and Veilleux scored on a top-shelf wrist shot to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead at 3:45 of the opening period.
The second period also yielded just a single goal, and again it went on the board for Chicago. With the Wolves on a power play, Dmitrij Jaskin found Ty Rattie in front of the net, and Rattie one-timed a low shot past Will to extend the Chicago lead to 2-0. The power play goal was scored at 9:37 of the middle frame.
The Wolves added two more in the third period: Rob Bordson made it 3-0 at 11:44 of the final frame, and with 1:11 left in the game Pat Cannone slipped one past Will to make the score 4-0 for the Wolves. Climie stopped all six shots he faced in the third period to preserve his first shutout of the season.
Will is 0-1-0 in net after the loss; he stopped 27 of 31 Chicago shots. Climie is 2-0-0 after the shutout victory, stopping 17 Monsters shots.
The Monsters and Wolves meet for the back half of their weekend back-to-back set in Chicago tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. All the action can be heard live on AM 1420 "ËThe Answer'.
