Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums shutout the Midwest Sliders 4-0 at Wuerfel Park on Sunday night to record a sweep.
Brett Bostelman tossed a complete game shutout to earn his third win of the season. He scattered six hits and walked two while striking out two. It was the first complete game of Bostelman's career. Bostelman worked around leadoff doubles in the second and third to tally the win.
A two-out rally in the bottom of the third gave Bostelman all the support he would need as the Beach Bums took a 1-0 lead against Midwest starter Ryan MacFarlane, who was making his first professional start. Mike Goetz doubled down the left-field line with two outs and scored on an RBI single by Steve Young.
Eric Newton connected on a solo homer to begin the bottom of the fifth, his first as a member of the Beach Bums. Traverse City tacked on another run in the inning to take a 3-0 edge. Mike Goetz drew a two-out walk and scored on a single by Jake Whitesides. The final run scored in the eighth on a base hit by Eric Newton to bring in Zack Kalter.
The win matched the Beach Bums longest winning streak of the season at four games. Traverse City tallied 10 hits in the contest. Mike Goetz, Steve Young, Eric Newton, and Patrick Perry all contributed a pair of hits.
The Beach Bums (26-19) have an off day tomorrow before meeting the River City Rascals in O'Fallon, Missouri on Tuesday night in an 8:05 pm game at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
